Enough statistics to justify good or bad news
ITFacts.Biz has been updating us with lots of good stats, and I've been noticing many posts on multiple blogs focuses on two somewhat contradictory views on the state of IT in the US.
I think the best take on the situation is to not worry so much about exactly what's happening and where we're going, but to engage in some scenario planning and understand what strategic moves can be taken to position yourself nicely for whatever future comes about.
This article on ZDNet, for example, while clearly a publicity piece for the consulting firm, takes a good view on trying to understand where things may be going, and to position accordingly. It's not that IT jobs are going away - the many unfilled jobs point to the lack of new skills for new technologies, and it becomes our responsibility to find ways to move forward as opposed to hoping that what we currently know will stay in vogue.
