Putting Data into Context

Putting Data into Context

Another link to Thinking Faster - I like this blog.

Not quite a peeve, but it amazes me how often presentations talk about numeric specifics like "increased revenue by $1.2M". Is that a lot? For IBM, a failure, for my corner laundromat, a boom year.

When presenting numeric data, always give it some context, like % increase since prior year, or revenue increase as percent of total revenue. And don't make the mistake of only reporting the relative increase, give the hard dollars as well.
