- This weekend's Big Event was XML in Office 12 - millions of posts. Today it's been all things Apple and Intel. I've seen ApTel and (my preferred) MacTel, but I'm not sure yet how it will affect our group, as we are fairly focused on Wintel for desktops, servers, and directory services.
- One very nice XML site can be found here - a good introduction to XML. More pressure to move over to that format with my Eclipse project.
- I knew that Eclipse 3.1 is just around the corner, but I'm consciously waiting for the relase version, not just the candidates. I'm struggling enough <g> with what I consider the basics, don't want to deal with bug hunts.
- I really like this post today just for the infographic, but it related to another interesting post about the application of large computing resources in the field of genomics. A very interesting detail about the infrastrucutre requiremmentsfor the data center supporting that processing, with an excellent observation about the costs - processors and storage decrase in cost, but the power consumption! (and, what most people forget about when planning data centers / systems - failover and UPS!)
- An interesting attempt in TechRepublic today about re-using database design, but not too original; most organizations I've been with love the idea of reusing data objects, at many levels - full table sets, views, as well as design paradigms like "all pkeys are long integers" and "list if lists". Years ago I stumpled across this site, with lots of starter data models at different levels of completeness / complexity.
