Succinct Definition of IT Generalist
This article in Infoworld provides a nice, succinct definition of roles and responsibilities, and typical actions and impact, of what Yager calls an IT Generalist. Personally, I think all in IT need to develop this approach - define the real issue and drive to the best solution, regardless of the technology. The idea of mile wide / inch deep is OK, but I believe everyone in IT should always look for opportunitites to "think wide".
